Preferred term

Aculops lycopersici

A microscopic arachnid species belonging to the Eriophyidae family, whose adults are yellowish-beige in color, have two pairs of legs, are spindle-shaped, and measure 150-180 micrometers in size. It feeds on the stems, leaves, and fruits of plants, causing the leaves to turn reddish-brown, dry out, become brittle, and take on a bronze-like appearance as if roasted, while the stems and fruits harden and crack. It is a pest of Solanaceae plants, primarily tomatoes, but also eggplant, tobacco, and petunias.
