Integrated Crop-Forestry
Definition
A complete explanation of the intended meaning of a concept- Sustainable production strategy that integrates agricultural and forestry activities in the same area, in intercropped, succession or rotation systems, seeking synergistic effects between the components of the agroecosystem, encompassing environmental adequacy, valorization of labor force and economic viability, optimizing yield gains while preserving natural resources (Balbino et al., 2011a). Also called silvoagricultural system, it consists of intercropping agricultural species, annual or perennial, with forest species. Economically, it allows diversification of production in areas that previously produced only grains or forest products, in addition to promoting increased nutrient cycling and weed control between tree rows. It is of great importance in efforts to reduce GHG emissions, coordinated by the ABC Plan (see entry).
