Integrated Crop-Livestock
Definition
A complete explanation of the intended meaning of a concept- Sustainable production strategy that integrates agricultural and livestock activities in the same area, in intercropped, succession or rotation systems, seeking synergistic effects between the components of the agroecosystem, encompassing environmental adequacy, valorization of labor force and economic viability, optimizing yield gains while preserving natural resources (Balbino et al., 2011a). Also called agropastoral system, it is the rotary, successive or intercropped cultivation of crops that produce grains and/or silage with forage species. After harvesting the main crop, the pasture is established to be explored by animals for specified periods, according to the main activity of the property and the region. It presents economic advantages to cattle breeders, as it proposes a set of options for the recovery or renewal of degraded pastures and enables diversification and gains of income, in addition to reducing the environmental impact. It is of great importance in efforts to reduce GHG emissions, coordinated by the ABC Plan (see entry).
