Definition
A complete explanation of the intended meaning of a concept- Famine is the most severe phase of the IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification). It exists in areas where at least one in five households has or is most likely to experience an extreme deprivation of food. Starvation, death, destitution and extremely critical levels of acute malnutrition are or will likely be evident. Significant mortality, directly attributable to outright starvation or to the interaction of malnutrition and disease, is occurring or is likely to be occurring.
- L'état de famine correspond à la phase de sévérité la plus élevée de l'IPC (Cadre intégré de classification de la sécurité alimentaire). Il existe dans les zones où au moins un ménage sur cinq souffre ou est très susceptible de souffrir d’un manque extrême de nourriture. Des niveaux d'inanition, de décès, de dénuement et de malnutrition aiguë critiques sont manifestes ou risquent de le devenir. Une mortalité importante directement imputable à des états d'inanition évidents ou aux interactions entre la malnutrition et la maladie est présente ou risque d'apparaître.
