Definition
A complete explanation of the intended meaning of a concept- Aumento episódico de la altura del mar en un determinado lugar causado por condiciones meteorológicas extremas (presión atmosférica baja o vientos fuertes). Se define como la diferencia entre el nivel de la marea alcanzado y el esperado en un lugar y momento dados.
- Élévation temporaire du niveau de la mer, en un lieu donné, en raison de conditions météorologiques extrêmes (basse pression atmosphérique et/ou vents forts). L’onde de tempête est définie comme l’excès du niveau observé par rapport à la marée habituellement prévue à l’endroit et au moment considérés.

Notes about the usage and scope of the concept.- Storm surge is purely water level rise caused by hurricane winds and low pressure. However, when surge levels are combined with the already-present tide, "storm surge" becomes "storm tide".
