Scope note

  • In the context of Access Benefit Sharing and the Nagoya Protocol, PIC refers to the administrative permit given by the competent national authority of a provider country to a user, prior to accessing genetic resources. In the context of the Rotterdam Convention, a PIC procedure is established to ensure that restricted hazardous chemicals are not exported to countries that do not wish to receive them.
